Count the Sprinkles! competition terms
Official competition terms & conditions | 14–17 October 2026
1. Organiser and fundraising beneficiary
Count the Sprinkles is a joint event activity presented by The Cake Network Pty Ltd and Meloo at Cake Alley Brisbane. The Cake Network Pty Ltd is the legal competition organiser and the authorised fundraiser. The beneficiary is The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation (ABN 34 853 168 302), through its fundraising initiative The Common Good. Community Fundraising Number: 150083042r.
2. Daily competition dates and closing time
Four separate competitions are held from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 October 2026. Entries are accepted during the activity’s opening hours and close strictly at 3:00pm Brisbane time (AEST) each day. A guess applies only to the day on which it is paid for and digitally submitted. The cupcake display and official estimated count may change daily.
3. Who can enter
Entry is open to Cake Alley visitors, including children with parent or guardian permission. If a child enters, an adult must provide contact details and give any optional marketing consent on their own behalf. The judge and anyone involved in preparing, recording or accessing that day’s confidential official estimate, together with people administering or determining the results, cannot enter that day. Any event admission charge is separate from the competition entry price.
4. Entry price and process
One guess costs $2; three guesses cost $5. Multiple purchases are allowed. Examine the designated cupcakes from nearby without touching them; write one positive whole-number estimate per guess sheet, using the combined sprinkle count across all designated cupcakes. Take the sheet to the competition desk and pay. A volunteer will record the purchaser’s name, required email address, optional telephone number, public display name and guesses in the official Google Form (one submission per purchase). The customer checks the guesses on screen before submission. After payment and confirmed digital submission, the handwritten sheet may be pinned on the display wall. A sheet pinned on the wall without a matching paid digital entry is not a valid entry. Guesses cannot be changed after confirmation.
5. Official record, privacy of public display
The timestamped Google Form response and supporting payment and entry evidence are the official records for determining valid guesses and resolving genuine discrepancies. The public wall shows only the display name or nickname and handwritten guesses; contact details are not publicly displayed. A displayed sheet does not prove payment or eligibility. Entrants are responsible for checking each recorded number at the point of purchase.
6. How the official estimated count is set
Samples of 100 sprinkles were individually counted and weighed to 0.1 g. The arithmetic mean weight of those samples is used to convert the total measured weight of sprinkles added to the selected, individually numbered and sealed cupcakes into a combined Official Estimated Sprinkle Count, rounded once to the nearest whole sprinkle. This is a measured estimate, not a physical count of every sprinkle. Before opening entries each day, the judge records the cupcake numbers, total sprinkle weight, calculation and official estimate and signs a confidential daily declaration. The display remains fixed during that day’s entry period. Entrants may inspect visually but not touch or move cupcakes.
7. Winner and tie-breakers
The daily winner is the valid entrant whose guess has the smallest absolute numerical difference from that day’s Official Estimated Sprinkle Count; guesses above and below are treated equally. If two or more entrants are tied for the closest guess, each will be offered a two-minute skill-based estimate of the sprinkles on a separate pre-measured tie-breaker cupcake, with equivalent viewing conditions. The closest estimate wins. Further pre-measured tie-breakers will be used if needed; there is no random draw. Entrants do not need to remain at the event. Where a tied entrant is absent, the organiser will make reasonable contact by the details provided and arrange the same timed challenge remotely if needed. If the entrant does not respond within 48 hours of initial contact despite reasonable attempts, the judge may proceed with the remaining eligible tied entrants.
8. Prizes and announcements
There is one sponsor-donated major prize pack each day, with a genuine advertised retail value of at least $60 AUD. Its sponsor, contents and value will be displayed before entry opens each day. There are no random draws for prizes, this is a game of skill. Entries close at 3:00pm. The daily winner will ordinarily be announced on the main stage after verification, but an announcement may be delayed for a tie-breaker. The winner need not be present and will be contacted by email or, if provided, telephone. Winners are responsible for arranging collection or delivery of prizes at their expense. Prizes are not exchangeable for cash; any material voucher conditions will be disclosed before purchase.
9. Fundraising and expenses
The Cake Network Pty Ltd holds written authority to fundraise for The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation. Proceeds of paid entries will benefit the Foundation. Any deduction for actual POS payment-processing fees will be made only if authorised by the Foundation and permitted by applicable fundraising requirements; otherwise those fees will be borne by the organiser. Neither The Cake Network nor Meloo will retain a promoter commission or profit from entry fees. Major prizes are donated by sponsors. Competition payments are not tax-deductible gifts.
10. Personal information and separate marketing opt-in
Personal information supplied to enter is collected by The Cake Network for administering the competition, checking entries, contacting winners and keeping necessary records. The Cake Network may disclose the entrant’s name and email address to Meloo only where the entrant has given an affirmative, optional, specific marketing consent. That consent allows both The Cake Network and Meloo to send their own marketing emails about cake, decorating products, classes, events and offers. Entrants can unsubscribe from each business independently using the unsubscribe facility in its messages. Declining marketing does not affect the competition entry. Data of entrants who do not opt in must not be shared with Meloo for its marketing. See the collection notice and the parties’ privacy information at the POS and online.
11. Fairness, corrections and consumer rights
The judge will compare each paid whole-number guess with the predetermined official estimate and retain reasonable calculation and judging records. If an error, display damage or system interruption materially affects fairness, the organiser may suspend sales, check records, correct the issue or cancel the affected day and refund affected entries. Deliberate interference or fraudulent entries may be disqualified after reasonable review. These terms do not exclude any rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.
12. Availability of rules and contact
The full terms, daily prize details and entry price will be available at the POS before payment, on the competition walls and online. By purchasing an entry, entrants acknowledge that these terms were available for their review. Contact the organiser through cakenetwork.com/contact. Dates and times are Brisbane local time (AEST).
