Shoe Bakery

An interview feature on Shoe Bakery.

How did Shoe Bakery start?

What led to the business idea?

I've always loved art; initially I started out customizing mens sneakers which was great, but I realized there were a lot of customizers out there flooding the market so I decided to try women's shoes. Regardless of social class or status women love shoes and sweets so I thought "why not combine them?".

Where do you get design inspiration from?

The source of inspiration is anything sweet. Anytime we see something delicious; rather then asking how will this taste; we wonderhow would this look on a shoe or purse. Of course it doesn't hurt to eat it as well. When we first started our Pink Sprinkle flats, we constantly had donuts at the shop. I think we gained a few pounds around that time. Lol! We also like to use sweets in our photo shoots Can you tell us about the design and manufacturing process?

Design really start from the sketch pad, after coming up with a wonderful and possibly tasty food combination, we determine whether it would look good on a purse or a shoe. From their we source desertsto conveythe best real life textures. At this moment, the shoes are done on site and onlyourbagsandwallets are manufactured.

Were you surprised at the rapid rate of success of your products?

We knew there was some interest in our products, but didntt realized they'd be loved on a global scale. So yes we were very surprised to see the rapid rate.

Do you have a favourite product?

I love all my products, but to be honest I love thePremium lce Cream Heels. They are a summer treat that we were ableto take and evolve into something that can be worn all year round and not melt..

How long does it take to create a shoe or bag?

To create our shoes is a delicately long process, it takes approximately five weeks to complete them with the current waiting list. All of our shoes are all carefully crafted by me and the rest of my team. Shoe Bakery is a worldwide name and we in Australia love your products!

Can you tell us which is the best selling style and in which country (outside of the USA) your biggest customer base is in?

Aside from wholesale orders for our bags, outside of the US; Australia is second in orders. The most popular item would be ourPink SprinkleTote collection.

TM What's next for Shoe Bakery?

I would loveto expand the business and focus on creating more fine art and more accessories and possibly have a children's line.
